Debidas Bhattacharyya
Debidas Bhattacharyya a small-town boy with big dreams, came to Kolkata to pursue a career as an actor-director. He began his journey in Basirhat as a theatre actor-director before transitioning into the Bengal film industry. Starting as an assistant director, Debidas eventually directed his first solo project, Pratikhha Ektu Bhalobashar, which marked the beginning of a remarkable career. His vast experience and dedication led him to mentor many rising stars in the industry, including Jishu Sengupta and Monami Ghosh, whose first TV show as the lead was directed by Debidas.
After the success of Pratikhha Ektoo Bhalobashar, Debidas went on to direct over 16 mega-series and 122 telefilms. In addition to directing, he acted in several acclaimed projects such as Rahul Ganguly’s Daaho, Aparna Sen’s Arshinagar, and Zee TV favorites like Shyaola, Ek Akasher Niche, Rajeshwari, and Shishirer Shabdo. He also played the memorable role of a villain in Aakash Choya, a performance that left an indelible mark. Throughout his career, he worked with legendary stars such as Wahida Rahman, Soumitra Chattopadhyay, Dev, Dipankar De, Laboni Sarkar, and Aparajita Addhyo. His last serial, Briddhashram 2, became a defining chapter in his journey. Debidas remained a beloved figure to the actors he mentored, many of whom still affectionately call him dad, baba, or DD.
Awards and Recognition
For his iconic portrayal of a villain in Aakash Choya, the Best Actor in a Negative Role category at the Bengal Film and Television Awards is dedicated to his name. Besides his contributions to film and television, Debidas was a gifted calligrapher and an amazing painter, further showcasing his multifaceted talent.

Debidas Bhattacharyya’s unwavering dedication to the arts and literature inspired the creation of the non-profit organization THEAOLITT. Through this organization, his legacy of creativity, mentorship, and passion for the arts will continue to flourish, spreading the joy and wonder with which he viewed the world.
